Sr. Janet Marie elected prioress

Sister Janet Marie Flemming was elected as the ninth prioress of the community.

As her time as prioress began, Sister Janet Marie initiated a discernment process with the community regarding the monastery buildings. For two years, community members read a structured series of readings on their monastic charism and gathered for times of discussion of the readings. The community then consulted with architects, structural engineers and other professionals who assessed the status of the monastery buildings and offered observations and recommendations.

After these preparatory phases, Sister Janet Marie led the community through the process of creating a Master Plan for a major three-phase renovation, demolition, and construction project along with a major capital campaign to support the project. Having begun the process with study and reflection on their monastic charism, the resulting Master Plan was more deeply rooted in the community’s desire to live the charism faithfully.
