A Season of Listening: God’s Voice in Christmas (online)

December 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

While secular Christmas ends on December 25, that is just the beginning of a beautiful season that moves into the new calendar year, celebrating Mary the Mother of God, Epiphany and concluding with the Baptism of Jesus. For many, it is a season of reviewing the old year and preparing for the new.

This two-session retreat invites you to listen for God’s voice in a sustained way through this season. The first 90-minute session presents three prayer practices for listening to God’s voice and several methods for capturing and pondering God’s guidance. The second session reviews the prayer practices, offers a chance to share your experience of sustained prayer, and offers ways to close this season of prayer.

Presenter: Sister Edith Bogue, OSB, is a Benedictine sister recently transplanted to Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman from a monastic community in the midwest. A sociologist and social worker by training, she has also served as oblate and vocation director. A retreat leader and spiritual director, she joined the staff of the Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center in July 2021.

Cost: $25 (covers both sessions)

This retreat is offered in two formats, with the same content in both formats:

  • Online by Zoom:  Tuesdays December 14, 2021, and January 4, 2022 at 7:00pm CST.
  • At the Retreat Center, by application, on December 16 and January 6.  Please see separate event listing for application instructions.

  • Centering Prayer is a form of Christian prayer rooted in the ancient Christian contemplative tradition. Its purpose is to foster a deeper intimacy with Christ through the silence and stillness of contemplative prayer. This time of pandemic has led many to seek to deepen their relationship with God through this wordless prayer of contemplation. This weekend retreat is designed for those new to Centering Prayer. The participants will keep silence for the weekend, but there will be opportunities for questions and discussion about the practice. To register, please select ONE of the following options.
