Choosing Together: Group Discernment

May 17, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

How can we live and practice discernment when others are involved? Friends, work groups, families, and organizations face choices. The long Benedictine tradition of discernment moves
beyond winner/loser methods (taking turns, majority rules) to seek common ground. This retreat offers an introduction to the spirituality of this form of reaching decisions in groups and
some practices that foster it.

Retreat director: Sister Edith Bogue, OSB

Sister Edith Bogue, OSB, is a Benedictine sister recently transplanted to Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman from a monastic community in the Midwest. A sociologist and social worker by training, she has also served as oblate and vocation director. A retreat leader and spiritual director, she joined the staff of the Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center in July 2021.

Fee: $25.00

  • Centering Prayer is a form of Christian prayer rooted in the ancient Christian contemplative tradition. Its purpose is to foster a deeper intimacy with Christ through the silence and stillness of contemplative prayer. This time of pandemic has led many to seek to deepen their relationship with God through this wordless prayer of contemplation. This weekend retreat is designed for those new to Centering Prayer. The participants will keep silence for the weekend, but there will be opportunities for questions and discussion about the practice. To register, please select ONE of the following options.
  • Explore the life and gifts of Hildegard of Bingen, a Benedictine visionary, artist, composer, and physician who lived in the 1100s.
